HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 c194W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many meetings he or other Ministers in his Department have attended during the months of January to March to discuss the future of the plant breeding station at Aberystwyth; and with whom.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Between January and March this year I have had two meetings to discuss the plant breeding station at Aberystwyth. The first was on 31 January with representatives of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and the second on 14 March when I joined my right hon. Friend the Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in meeting Lord Cledwyn of Penrhos, Lord Prys-Davies and Sir Emrys Jones. In addition, on 2 March, I visited the plant breeding station and met the acting director, Dr. Breeze, and the staff. Mr. John Parry of the Agricultural and Food Research Council was also present.

There have been no other meetings attended by Ministers from my Department.
