HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 c161W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for reports from chief constables giving details of the guidance they have given to police officers in respect of their legal rights and responsibilities regarding the photographing and filming of pickets, and the subsequent use of film; and if he will make a statement summarising the guidance given.

Mr. Hurd

It would involve a disproportionate cost to make enquiries of all chief officers of police in England and Wales. There are no statutory provisions on the taking of photographs or filming by the police or anyone else, and it is for chief officers to decide whether or not photographs or film should be taken in particular circumstances.
