HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 cc200-1W
Mr. Speller

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the district hospitals and teaching hospitals in England; and what are his plans for any changes in these numbers.

Mr. John Patten

All NHS hospitals are listed in the current edition of the "Hospitals and Health Services Year Book". Teaching hospitals are not designated centrally: district health authorities designated for teaching purposes are listed in HC(82)2, Appendix 2 and we have no plans to change the authorities designated. Copies of both documents are in the Library.

Planning of hospital provision is a matter for health authorities. We recently issued guidance to authorities on their operational and strategic planning tasks in 1984 in circular HC(84)2, a copy of which is in the Library.
