HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 cc141-2W
Mr. Neale

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has made a final decision yet as to whether the improvements to the A30 trunk road should be a single track or a dual carriageway road in respect of the parts of the road between (a) the prospective Okehampton bypass and the existing Launceston bypass (b) the existing Launceston bypass and Plusha bypassing Tregadillet and (c) Plusha and the existing dual carriageway and Bolveutor; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

Final decisions on the standard of carriageway to be provided on these three schemes will not be taken until completion of preparatory works and the statutory procedures for each scheme. The schemes are presently proposed in accordance with the Department's design standards, as follows:

  1. (a) a 10m wide single carriageway road between the proposed A30 Okehampton bypass and Launceston bypass;
  2. (b) a dual two-land carriageway road between Launceston bypass and Kennard House junction, bypassing Tregadillet, and a 10m wide single carriageway from there to Plusha;
  3. (c) the scheme for the improvement of the A30 between Plusha and Bolveutor is currently under investigation and the proposed standard of carriageway has not yet been established.

Mr. Neale

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what progress has been made on the preparation of the design and route of the prospective improvement to the A30 between the Launceston bypass and Plusha bypassing Tregadillet; and when he expects to make a formal statement.

Mrs. Chalker

Good progress is being made with the preparation of the proposals for the improvements of the A30 Launceston bypass-Plusha. It is hoped to publish these in draft orders under the Highways Act later this year.
