HC Deb 09 April 1984 vol 58 c54W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to (a) who authorised the police entry to the roof of Bush house. BBC external services, on Thursday 29 March to photograph individuals involved in the demonstration in support of the Greater London council, (b) the purpose of taking such photographs and (c) what has happened to the photographs.

Mr. Hurd

The Commissioner tells me that police access to the roof of Bush house on 29 March was authorised by the BBC. A camera team relayed video pictures to enable police to monitor the progress of the march, the deployment of police officers, the effectiveness of traffic arrangements and the general effect on traffic in the area. The film will be edited for any material useful for future training purposes; the remainder will be erased.
