asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people from each travel-to-work area or employment office area within the metropolitan county of Merseyside have been assisted, at what total cost, under the employment transfer scheme in each of the last 12 months; and what were the comparable figures for each previous year to May 1979.

Statistics on the employment transfer scheme are collected on a quarterly basis. The number of people assisted under the scheme and the payments under the scheme since 1 April 1979 are:
