HC Deb 06 April 1984 vol 57 cc692-3W
Mr. Squire

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many of (a) the 850,000 taxpayers lifted out of tax as a result of the increase in personal tax allowances and (b) the 400,000 lifted out of tax as a result of the increase in personal allowances above that required by indexation, have children.

Mr. Moore

Approximately 100,000 fewer families with children will pay tax in 1984–85 under the Budget proposals than if allowances were to remain at their 1983–84 levels. This includes about 60,000 families taken out of tax compared to statutory indexation of allowances.
