HC Deb 05 April 1984 vol 57 c624W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the increase in the percentage of owner-occupiers since 1979; and how much of this increase is due to sale of council houses.

Sir George Young

The latest estimates are that about 57 per cent. of the dwelling stocks in England was owner-occupied at the end of March 1979 and about 62 per cent. at the end of 1983; 3 per cent. of current total stock had been sold by councils for owner occupation during that period.
