HC Deb 05 April 1984 vol 57 c634W
Mr. Freeson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will take further steps in the United Nations in the case of Maleseal Moloise, who was sentenced to death for allegedly murdering a security policeman in November 1982 in South Africa, to put pressure on the South African authorities to commute the death sentence; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

The United Nations Security Council has already taken appropriate action through the adoption on 13 January of its resolution 547 which called for the commutation of Mr. Moloise's sentence on humanitarian grounds. The South African Government are aware of this. We continue to watch developments closely and understand there is an indefinite stay of execution pending further consideration of Mr. Moloise's case.
