HC Deb 05 April 1984 vol 57 c633W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what will be the impact on public revenue and public accounts generally in 1983–84 and 1984–85 of the nonpayment of the United Kingdom's 1983 rebate from the EEC; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ian Stewart

Public expenditure in 1983–84 was increased by some £516 million. When payment of the refund is made in 1984–85 public expenditure in that year will be reduced by the same amount. The effect on the PSBR will depend on other transactions involving the Commission's account with the Paymaster General in London.
