asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many youth training scheme places were identified and supported in the Workington travel-to-work area and the county of Cumbria during the last month for which statistics are available.

Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many additional places were sponsored by Allerdale district council under the youth training scheme and the community programmes, separately, for the last month for which statistics are available; and what is the total number of places now being supported by that authority under each scheme.

During February no additional places have been sponsored by Allerdale district council under either the youth training scheme or the community programme. The Council is currently sponsoring 20 youth training scheme places of which 15 are filled.

The council has a community programme agency for 395 places. Projects with 333 places hve been approved and 248 were filled on 29 February.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East (Mrs. Short) on 16 February, Official Report, columns 266–67, that 48,000 young people had left before their training programme was completed, how many had left (a) to start alternative employment, (b) to transfer to another scheme within the youth training scheme or Manpower Services Commission, and (c) for other reasons.

Information on the destinations of young people leaving the youth training scheme will be reported to the Youth Training Board at its meeting on 17 April and a copy will be placed in the Library at the same time.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many trainees on the youth training scheme have died or been injured since the scheme's inception; how many of these incidents occurred on (a) premises registered with the Factories Inspectorate and (b) premises not so registered; and whether the trainees so injured were taking part in mode A or mode B schemes at the time of their accident.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has as to how many trainees have left the youth training scheme because of their concern about their safety since the start of the scheme; how many such trainees have had their supplementary benefit reduced; by what amount their benefit has been reduced; and on what ground benefit can be reduced.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people in (a) Scotland and (b) the United Kingdom have left youth training schemes because they have found permanent work.
