HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c587W
Mr. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what pay increments or additional benefits are given to service men posted to Saxa Vord base in Shetland to take account of higher living costs there.

Mr. Lee

Service personnel posted to Saxa Vord may take advantage of several concessions related to travel to and from the mainland which are made available in recognition of the remoteness of the location.

A recent review has confirmed that, taken as a whole, any difference between living costs borne by service personnel at Saxa Vord, and their colleagues elsewhere in the UK, is not such as would justify additional pay or allowances.
