§ Mr. Chris Smithasked the Secretary' of State for the Home Department how many arrests have been made by police officers in the Islington N division of the Metropolitan police in each of the last two years; and how many of the persons arrested have subsequently been charged and brought to court.
§ Mr. HurdI understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the available information relates to persons arrested for notifiable offences and dealt with by means of a charge, referral to a juvenile bureau, a caution or in some other way. There were 3,191 such arrests in Islington (N) police district in 1982 and 3,238 in 1983. Figures for arrests not followed by such action are not available.
