HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c560W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when regulations will be made for the local government superannuation scheme to permit years in active service during the second world war to be included in the reckonable years for pensionable purposes for those in local government service.

Mr. Waldegrave

Regulations to allow most local government employees and pensioners who qualify to reckon their pre-entry war service came into operation on 1 December 1982. My hon. Friend may, however, be referring to further regulations which will provide the same facility for certain other groups of employees who did not qualify under the 1982 regulations. These are still being considered by the local authority associations, but I hope that they will be made later this year.

I have answered this general question in general terms: if my hon. Friend has a particular case in mind, I should be grateful if he would write to me.
