HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c574W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many prosecutions have been instituted since 1974 for breach of section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 by employers of workers in docks or in dockyards for failure so far as is reasonably practicable to ensure health, safety and welfare at work of all their employees; with what results; and which, and how many of such, prosecutions were in respect of failure to supply safety shoes.

Mr. Gummer

In the period between April 1975 (when the Act came into force) and March 1984 there are records of 17 informations laid against employers of workers in docks for breach of section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Of these, 16 led to conviction, one was dismissed and none was in respect of failure to supply safety shoes.
