HC Deb 03 April 1984 vol 57 c441W
Mr. Gould

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government have carried out a review of the industrial requirements to fight a total war on conventional lines in isolation; and whether the productive capacity of industry is sufficient for this purpose.

The Prime Minister

No. The Government's defence planning does not contemplate the waging of a large scale conventional war in isolation from our NATO allies.
