HC Deb 03 April 1984 vol 57 cc507-8W
Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what saving he expects to accrue in Northern Ireland from the decision to withdraw the rent addition of £3.10 weekly for non-householder supplementary benefit claimants in the 18 years to 20 years age group.

Mr. Chris Patten

It is estimated that the gross amount which will be saved will be about £2,579,000 in 1984–85. However, this will be partly offset by increases in the housing assistance payable to those householders who will receive a consequential increase up to £3.10 a week for each 18 to 20 year old non-dependant on supplementary benefit.
