HC Deb 03 April 1984 vol 57 c463W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he can yet state his proposals for an extension of the existing London rate equalisation scheme; if he will now estimate the rise in the resources available to the scheme necessary to avoid a rise in the rates levied by each London borough if the Greater London council is abolished; and what is the proportion to be met by central Government.

Mr. Waldegrave

We are currently considering the responses to our consultation paper on this issue. We shall announce our proposals in the light of those responses in due course. It would be premature to estimate at this stage how large the scheme will have to be.
