Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many physically handicapped and disabled people are employed and in what positions in his Department; and what percentage of the total number of employees this represents.

Mr. Butler

The number of registered disabled people employed in the Northern Ireland Civil Service as at 1 January 1984 was 341.

The attached table shows the breakdown of these staff by grade and also gives a comparison with the total number of staff employed in each grade.

None of the Home Civil Servants in post in the Northern Ireland Office, 187 as at 1 January 1984, is a registered disabled person.
