asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he intends to take to alleviate the poverty trap.

The Government's aim is to reduce the burden of personal taxation as resources permit. Priority will be given to increases in personal allowances, which take people out of tax and reduce the numbers affected by the trap.
