HC Deb 24 November 1983 vol 49 c231W
Mr. Speller

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if the Director General of Fair Trading will set up an inquiry into the effects of credit card trading on smaller petrol retailers in rural areas.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

As the Monopolies and Mergers Commission suggested in its report on credit card franchise services, the Director General has been keeping the supply of credit cards under review, including charges levied on smaller traders by the credit card companies. If he considered that a further investigation was called for, either of the market as a whole or of a particular feature of it, he could make a further reference to the Commission.
