HC Deb 24 November 1983 vol 49 c258W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list all grammar schools by county, showing the number of pupils receiving full-time education in each.

Mr. Dunn

I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many proposals he has approved in each of the past three years for the establishment or re-establishment of maintained grammar schools; and how many proposals are currently under consideration.

Mr. Dunn

Between 1 October 1980 and 30 September 1983 my right hon. Friend and his predecessor decided two proposals to establish new grammar schools; those from Birmingham education authority were approved on 23 October 1980 and those from Hereford and Worcester were rejected on 14 October 1982. No such proposals are current.
