HC Deb 04 May 1983 vol 42 cc101-2W
Mr. Mason

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) if he will indicate the number and location of whirling disease cleared sites which have had movement restrictions lifted and subsequently experienced a recurrence of the disease; and if he will make a statement;

(2) pursuant to his reply to the right hon. Member for Barnsley, Official Report, 14 February, c. 78, if his Department's investigation into the recurrence of whirling disease is now complete; and, if so, if he will make a statement.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

There has been a recurrence of whirling disease on only one site where movement restrictions had been placed as a result of the disease and and the contribution of Her Majesty's Government thereto will be taken until these discussions with the Government of Gibraltar have been completed. I understand that redundancy payments are likely to be in the order of £5 million.
