§ Sir Anthony Meyerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on what proportion of 85W votes in the United Nations the member states reached an agreed position in 1982; and on how many occasions the member state holding the Presidency of the Council of Ministers spoke on behalf of the Ten in that year.
§ Mr. HurdIn 1982 there were 179 votes in the United Nations General Assembly, of which the Ten voted together on 74. A further 196 resolutions were adopted by consensus to which the Ten contributed. Overall the Ten adopted a common position on 72 per cent. of the resolutions which came before the Assembly. The Presidency spoke on behalf of the Ten on 90 occasions.
