HC Deb 04 May 1983 vol 42 c70W
38. Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Solicitor-General for Scotland what progress he is making to introduce new procedures to enable police officers to spend less time at court waiting to be called as witnesses.

The Solicitor-General for Scotland

A committee of procurators fiscal has met and responded to statistics submitted by the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents. Recently some information on this subject has been received from the Association of Chief Police Officers (Scotland). This material is under consideration at present. My noble and learned Friend the Lord Advocate and I are to meet Sheriff Principal Gillies and court officials shortly to discuss the results of an experiment which has been held with a view to reducing the time spent at court by all witnesses.
