§ Lord James Douglas-Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has completed his consultations with the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities and other interested bodies about the procedure to be adopted with regard to the publication of reports on educational establishments by Her Majesty's Inspector of Schools; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. YoungerI have now completed my consultations and have decided that reports by Her Majesty's Inspectorate on schools and colleges inspected after the commencement of the 1983–84 school session should be published. I am confident that these reports will continue to make a full assessment of the performance of each institution, and will be of great value to teachers, parents, authorities and other interested parties. The first published reports will be available in the autumn.
Individual copies of each report will be available free of charge through the education authorities or managers to the parents of pupils attending the school or college concerned and to other members of the public. Copies of reports on independent schools will be available from the school concerned. Copies of each report will also be placed in the Library of the House.
50WA copy of the Scottish Education Department circular No. 1095 giving full details of the procedures for publication will be placed in the Library.
