§ Mr. Crowtherasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will list in the Official Report the number of (a) successful prosecutions, (b) unsuccessful prosecutions, (c) complaints received and (d) investigations carried out under the Protection of Animals Acts 1911 to 1964 in each of the last five years for which figures are available, relating to the welfare of livestock in markets.
§ Mr. MellorThe only information readily available to us shows a total of 833 persons proceeded against in England and Wales in 1981, and 719 persons found guilty, for offences against the Protection of Animals Act 1911, as amended. This information may be incomplete on proceedings brought other than by the police. Information on the circumstances of the offence is not collected centrally.
