HC Deb 28 March 1983 vol 40 cc17-8W
Mr. Henderson

asked the Minister for Trade what discussions he has had with the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority about the Civil Aviation Authority's Highlands and Islands aerodromes.

Mr. Sproat

In pursuit of the Government's policy of privatisation, my right hon. and noble Friend the Secretary of State has asked the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority to consider how the aerodromes in the Scottish Highlands and Islands presently operated by the authority might be transferred to the private sector. We shall ensure that the interests of local communities are taken fully into account.

The chairman intends to discuss the future of the aerodromes with potential purchasers in the near future. Those of the authority's staff who are involved will be kept informed. Any individual or group or company interested in these proposals, either alone or as part of a potential consortium, should be in touch with the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority.
