HC Deb 23 March 1983 vol 39 c446W
42. Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department will introduce proposals to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the "Plant-a-Tree in '73" national campaign.

Mr. Macfarlane

Following the success of the 1973 campaign, which I understand originated with my hon. Friend the Member for Chipping Barnet (Mr. Chapman), my Department encouraged the setting up of the Tree Council, containing representatives from local authorities, landowners, amenity and other organisations, to promote tree planting, and I welcome the various initiatives it has taken.

While I have no immediate plans to initiate proposals to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the 1973 campaign, I am willing to consider any proposals which the Tree Council may wish to put forward to coincide with national tree week next November.
