HC Deb 11 March 1983 vol 38 c518W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has any plans to bring the laws on homosexuality in Hong Kong into line with those in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Rifkind

No. This is a matter for the Hong Kong Government. I understand that a review of the laws on homosexuality is being carried out by the Law Reform Commission in Hong Kong.

Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many prosecutions there have been in Hong Kong in each of the last five years for offences connected with homosexuality.

Mr. Rifkind

During the past five years prosecutions for homosexual practices—contrary to sections 49, 50 and 51 of The Offences Against The Person Ordinance Cap. 212 Laws of Hong Kong—were as follows:

Numbers
1978 40
1979 42
1980 70
1981 54
1982 23
