Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps, if need be by introducing legislation, to ensure that when police officers are found guilty of illegalities, or of breaking their rules and regulations during their official duties, where complaint is made and the complainants are awarded damages and compensation, such payments shall be paid out of the incomes and savings of the officers concerned and not from public funds.
