HC Deb 10 March 1983 vol 38 c474W
Mr. Maclennan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the increasingly frequent and damaging consequences of the flooding of the Oykel river and the Kyle of Sutherland, he will convene a conference of representatives of his Department, the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board, the Forestry Commission, the Highland Regional Council, the Sutherland district council, the Highlands and Islands Development Board and proprietors and crofters of affected land to consider what steps can be taken to deal with the situation.

Mr. John MacKay

Financial assistance to proprietors and occupiers of agricultural land, for approved works to prevent or restore flood damage, is available under the Agriculture and Horticulture Grant Scheme 1980. The Highland regional council has set up a working party of all the interested organisations to consider the factors associated with flooding and possible alleviation measures. It seems advisable to await the results of this study.
