HC Deb 09 March 1983 vol 38 c428W
17. Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what subjects he expects to discuss at his next meeting with representatives of the Government of the United States of America.

Mr. Pym

I had talks with the United States Secretary of State on 3 March when I accompanied Her Majesty the Queen to the west coast of America. I also had talks with the United States Secretaries for Defence and Treasury on 4 March. I shall have an opportunity to meet members of the United States Administration on a number of occasions in the next few months, including the OECD ministerial meeting on 9 and 10 May, the economic summit at the end of May and the North Atlantic Council on 9 and 10 June. The subjects to be discussed will naturally depend on the forum and the circumstances at the time, but are likely to include east-west relations, the position reached in the arms control talks, the situation in the middle east, the world economy and other matters.
