Mr. Lambie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish in the Official Report a list of all Rayner scrutinies relating to the Scottish Office and place a copy of each of them in the Library.

Mr. Younger

My Department has, in conjunction with Lord Rayner, completed the following scrutinies and reviews:

  1. (a) the future of the consultative committee on the curriculum and the Scottish curriculum development service;
  2. (b) the Scottish Development Department's advisory and monitoring functions in relation to local planning authorities;
  3. (c) Government statistical services;
  4. (d) fisheries research, including research and development supporting services;
  5. (e) Her Majesty's inspectorate of schools.

Reports on all but the last—which will be published soon—are in the Library.

The following centrally co-ordinated reviews in which the Scottish Office has participated are nearing completion:

  1. (a) Review of personnel work;
  2. (b) Review of prisons resource control.
