asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will report on the progress of the talks in Peking over the future of Hong Kong.

Meetings in Peking through diplomatic channels are continuing. The common aim, agreed during my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister's visit to China last September, is the maintenance of Hong Kong's stability and prosperity. For obvious reasons, the content of these meetings must remain confidential.
