HC Deb 09 March 1983 vol 38 c439W
Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on what terms he is considering leasing Henderson island to Mr. A. M. Ratliff; what measures he will take to preserve the island's environment; what will be the form of improved transport facilities for the inhabitants of Pitcairn island; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

The question of whether or not to lease Henderson island to Mr. Ratliff is still under discussion. The preservation of the island's environment is one of the many complex issues raised by Mr. Ratliff's proposal which still have to be resolved. Mr. Ratliff's offers include the construction of a small airfield on Pitcairn island at cost only, the provision of an air mail service and improved cargo supply facilities.
