§ Mr. Arnoldasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is satisfied with the take-up of heating additions.
§ Mr. NewtonI have no reason to believe that failure to take up heating additions is a significant problem. Information about heating additions is contained in the main leaflets which describe the supplementary benefit scheme. Heating additions are payable automatically to households with a member aged 70 or over, or under five, or who is in receipt of attendance allowance, mobility allowance or constant attendence allowance. Sixty three per cent. of supplementary beneficiaries now receive a heating addition; for supplementary pensioners the figure is 90 per cent.
