§ Mr. HurdThe accounts do not distinguish prisons from other prison service establishments, ie borstals, remand centres and detention centres. Total expenditure on all these in England and Wales in 1981–82, including headquarters expenditure, was £502,625,000. The 1982–83 figures are not yet available.
