HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 cc673-4W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many houses owned by his Department have been sold to their tenants in the past five years; and whether he has plans for any further sales, particularly in west Berkshire.

Mr. Stanley

Between 1 April 1980 and 31 March 1983 502 surplus civilian houses were sold to the sitting tenants. Between 1 April 1981 and 31 March 1983 124 surplus service married quarters were sold to service personnel including two to the occupants, under a scheme which allows service personnel to bid for such quarters before they are sold on the open market.

Records are not readily available for sales before these dates.

I will write to my hon. Friend about future sales.
