HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 c699W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many people have been granted funds under the noise insulation regulations to install double glazing and other noise reducing improvement during the last five years, respectively, for which records are available.

Mrs. Chalker

This information is not available. We estimate that since the Land Compensation Act 1973 my Department has insulated or paid for the insulation of over 30,000 houses and that local highway author ties will have dealt with as many again.

Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many people have been refuse funds for improvements during the last five years for which records are available under the noise insulation regulations on the grounds that the increase in noise levels has been due to an increase in use of an existing road.

Mrs. Chalker

I regret that this information is not available.

Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will extend the provisions of the noise insulation regulations for double glazing and other improvements to include those suffering from an increase in use of an existing road.

Mrs. Chalker

The scope of the noise insulation regulations is under general review. A statement will be made at an appropriate time.
