Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the answer of 26 July relating to research into drugs and driver ability and behaviour, if he will list the specific research projects into the role of drugs in road accidents which his Department is supporting in 1983–84 and plans to support in 1984–85.

The work consists of a survey of the presence of drugs in fatally injured drivers and an investigation of the availability of drugs on prescription to drivers who are subsequently killed or seriously injured in road accidents.
