HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 cc701-2W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list those advisory committees and other public bodies for which he is responsible, which have a member appointed to them to represent disabled people or who have members who are themselves disabled, and, separately, those which do not; and if he will list the names of those so appointed to bodies in the first category.

Mr. Tom King

This information is not held centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However, my Department has recently set up an advisory panel on disability, comprising experts in different aspects of disability, who will be guiding my Department in its continuing work in this area. The members of this panel area are as follows:

  • Mr. Jeffrey Sterling CBE—Vice Chairman of Motability.
  • Mr. John Hannam MP — Secretary to the All Party Disablement Group.
  • Dr. Adrian Stokes OBE—A Vice President of the Disabled Drivers Motor Club.
  • Mr. Bert Massie—Executive Assistant to the Director of the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation.
  • Mrs. Jill Allen MBE—Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Mobility of Blind and Partially Sighted People.
  • Mr. Clive Davis — Employment Services Officer, Royal National Institute for the Deaf.
  • Mr. Trevor Meadows—Director of the National Advisory Unit for Community Transport.
  • Mr. Peter Large MBE—Chairman of the Joint Committee on Mobility for the Disabled.
  • Mrs. Claudia Flanders OBE—Consultant on disability and 702 consumer affairs to the National Bus Company.
  • Mr. Bill Buchanan—Special Adviser on the Disabled to the British Railways Board.
  • Mr. Joe Hennessy OBE—A Vice President of the Disabled Drivers Association.

In addition, many of the major transport undertakings, including British Rail and the National Bus Company, also have well-established advisory groups on disability.
