asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they anticipate the 1978 proposal for a Council Directive about noise emitted by lawn mowers is to be adopted and if they will make a statement about the reasons for the delay in adopting this proposal.

It is not possible at this stage to say what the timetable will be for further consideration of the draft directive. Negotiations on this and a number of other draft directives are in abeyance pending determination of the arrangements relating to certification of products from third countries. This wider question is still under consideration by the Council of Ministers.
