HL Deb 27 July 1983 vol 443 cc1620-1WA
Lord Kilmany

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What plans they have in mind for further research into the utilisation of bracken in Scotland.

Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Gray of Contin)

Her Majesty's Government have no plans in mind to fund further research into the utilisation of bracken in Scotland. I understand, however, that the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, which has been investigating the potential of vegetation, including bracken, as an alternative source of energy, is seeking a research grant from the European Community for a project on bracken in south-west Scotland.
