§ Mr. Freudasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what advice is given by his Department to local education authorities on staffing policy in the light of Her Majesty's inspectors' reports on schools.
§ Mr. DunnIt is for the local education authority to determine its own staffing policy in the light of local needs, and of the resources available. If Her Majesty's inspectors reported, following a formal inspection, that the policy was giving rise to particularly favourable or unfavourable consequences in a school, the Department would look to the local education authority to pursue the matter—whether in spreading the good practice found or in rectifying deficiencies—and to inform my right hon. Friend of action taken.
