HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 cc331-2W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much was spent by the Northern Ireland Development Agency and the Industrial Development Board on overseas promotion of Northern Ireland in each of the last three years; whether the figure for each year represents an overspend or an underspend; and by how much in each case.

Mr. Adam Butler

Prior to the formation of the Industrial Development Board on 1 September 1932, when it assumed responsibility for the overseas promotion of industrial development in Northern Ireland, the former Department of Commerce was responsible for that function. The former Northern Ireland Development Agency was not involved in expenditure in this area.

Details of the financial provision, actual expenditure and resultant underspending are given for 1979–80, 1980–81 and 1981–82. The out-turn for the year ending 31 March 1983 is of course not yet available.
