HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c331W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) how many jobs from inward investment have been created by the Northern Ireland Development Agency and now the Industrial Development Board in Northern Ireland in each of the last three years; and what has been the cost per job of the employment created from this source in each year;

(2) how many jobs have been created by the Northern Ireland Development Agency and the Industrial Development Board in each of the last three years in firms based within Northern Ireland.

Mr. Adam Butler

In each of the last three years the number of jobs promoted, through the joint activities of the Department of Commerce and the Northern Ireland Development Agency, and from 1 September 1982 by the Industrial Development Board, in companies of Northern Ireland ownership and those of Great Britain and foreign ownership is as follows:

1980 1981 1982
Northern Ireland owned companies 1,328 480 994
Great Britain and foreign owned 4,217 2,096 2,426

It is still too early in the life of these projects to assess the number of jobs which will eventually come into existence.

The cost per job promoted in projects in Great Britain and foreign owned companies during 1980 and 1981 is as follows:

1980 1981
£ £
Cost per job promoted in Great Britain and foreign owned companies (at current prices) 7,944 5,554

Comparable information on costs for 1982 is not yet available.
