HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c298W
42. Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will provide assistance to Ghana and other countries in West Africa which have opened their frontiers to large numbers of the workers recently expelled from Nigeria; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

£150,000 has been made available for immediate relief aid. From this, transport and medical supplies have been provided for expelled workers in Benin and Togo. Some medical supplies are already being provided for Ghana and further requests are awaited. We are of course coordinating our efforts closely with those of other international organisations and relief agencies.
