§ Mr. David Steelasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider the introduction of industrial development incentives for Hawick, in view of the lack of available council houses there.
§ Mr. YoungerA wide range of incentives is already available in areas such as Hawick, including tax incentives, schemes to back innovation and export and a variety of measures to help businesses. The Scottish Development Agency provides support to small firms with a range of financial, technical and marketing services. Assistance is also available under section 8 of the Industrial Development Act 1982 for major investments.
