HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c295W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider the introduction of industrial development incentives for Hawick, in view of the lack of available council houses there.

Mr. Younger

A wide range of incentives is already available in areas such as Hawick, including tax incentives, schemes to back innovation and export and a variety of measures to help businesses. The Scottish Development Agency provides support to small firms with a range of financial, technical and marketing services. Assistance is also available under section 8 of the Industrial Development Act 1982 for major investments.
