Mr. Alexander

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total income received by Customs and Excise from value added tax transactions between registered businesses in the year ended 31 March 1982.

Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

In the year ended 31 March 1982, net receipts of VAT from businesses selling mainly to other businesses registered for VAT were about £9,000 million.

Mr. Alexander

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the cost to Customs and Excise of administering value added tax transactions between registered businesses in the year ended 31 March 1982.
